[after reading document] Obviously, the candidates, especially Obama, are not well versed in fuel cell technology.  The only specific mentions are by Biden, and only because of Dupont (developer of the ’70’s standard Nafion 1st generation PEM FC membrane) being not only located in Delaware, but being the most important private player in his state’s economy.  You won’t see him suporting Gore or 3M, let alone SOFC.  McCain’s comments are just hydrogen showing up in lists of clean energy.  And Palin is reduced to ‘Drill, Baby, Drill’.  The FC education of our leaders is clearly lacking.  Additionally, speaking of SOFC, all mentions of fuel cells come as ‘hydrogen fuel cells’ which is currently true for the current state of nowhere near commercial automotive power.  This is a pet peeve of mine because it implies a hydrogen economy is a necessary condition for fuel cells, and therefore ignores omni-fuelled systems including all SOFC and the current high temp FuelCell Energy systems which have been successfully running at California water treatment facilities using bio-gas.  Lets go with ‘Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Energy’!

Right on Jim. I guess it goes back to the old saying “where ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise.” I wrote my two senators and congressman about Fuel Cells and all I received back from them was a format email touting nuclear power. I attempted to get the EE dept. at the school I graduated from interested in installing a course in Fuel Cells and was met with indifference and silence. Yet they have a three hour course in nuclear power. I have been touting Fuel Cells for forty years and I still get the brook trout look when I mention them. And on top of all this, here in the state of Georgia, Georgia Power wants to add more nuclear power plants to their existing system at the tax payers expense. Now, the question is “how do we educate these 20th century minds and bring them into the 21st century”?
